Skills that stand the test of time

Are you learning the right skills?

Or are you wasting your time on skills that will eventually become obsolete?

Take this advice from someone who possesses a couple of completely useless superpowers:

📸 Analogue photography. I could take really good photos with my analogue camera, and I developed all my films in the darkrooms myself. I’m not sure if there are any darkrooms still left on the planet?

🧭 I can confidently navigate through woods and deserts using only a compass and a map. In the age of GPS and mobile phones, this skill is rendered completely redundant.

⚡ Macromedia Flash. I know that many e-learning designers can relate to this. I really loved this tool and still haven’t found a proper replacement for doing some jobs I used to do with it.

Looking back, I invested a considerable amount of my life learning things that I can’t even use anymore.

However, with the world moving at its current speed, it’s never been a better time to learn new skills. Actually, there have probably never been so many options available for anyone who wants to learn something new.

Unfortunately, the decision can have an important impact on our future careers.
