Why I don’t like the phrase “Keep the human in the loop”?
Because it suggests that the roles of humans and AI are equal.
That’s far from being true (at least for now).
In most of today’s working processes, humans are still the ones who understand the broader context, who need to perform and are, essentially, accountable for the results of their work.
AI, on the other hand, is still only a (really useful and powerful) tool that helps us with our work.
That’s why I prefer the view that puts the human at the centre. We’re controlling the work, we’re making the decisions, and we’re accountable for our work.
And that’s why I giggle every time I encounter an AI-based solution that’s supposed to do the work instead of us.
We’re not there yet. Feel free to convince me otherwise.
