L&D Professionals: What are the immoral uses of AI in our field?
Many of us are contemplating how AI will impact the work of L&D professionals.
While I often get excited by the myriad ideas surrounding AI, there are certain directions I believe we should avoid to ensure our well-being:
1. Personalised Learning Experience.
This has always been a top priority for every L&D department. AI seems to bring us closer to providing such an experience, but achieving this would require an enormous amount of data on each individual. Are we willing to sacrifice another aspect of our privacy to pursue this goal?
2. Accountability and Compliance.
The simplest way to make people accountable for their actions is to create policies on required behaviour and enforce them through mandatory compliance training. This pattern can easily be mimicked by AI. The question is, do we really want this?
3. Human Interaction.
Human interaction is crucial for effective learning, providing emotional support, and personalised guidance. These are complex issues, and I don’t believe AI can ever handle them well.
Are there any other approaches with AI that you think L&D should avoid?
