Learning experience is a wild beast!
Some dimensions of learning experience will always remain beyond your control.
But in order to deliver the best possible outcomes of your learning initiatives, it’s vital to understand the churn moments in the learning experience funnel.
I tried to visualise four key elements that affect the overall learning experience and eventually the learning outcomes:
1. Corporate culture. Not all people are keen to learn, but the more an organisation appreciates knowledge, the less churn can be expected at this level.
2. Engagement tactics. These describe all activities used to promote various learning options. Employees need to be aware of all options to acquire knowledge. Failure to promote them will tighten the funnel and increase the churn.
3. Learning environment. Your LMS might be full of obstacles that prevent users from accessing learning content. This applies to classic instructor-led training as well, whether in the classroom or online.
4. Last but not least: the learning content. When the learning outcomes aren’t successful, content is often the first to take the blame. Content definitely plays an essential part in the learning experience, but overall, it’s just one piece of the puzzle.
